David Sartory

David Sartory, MSc is a water microbiologist with over 30 years of experience in drinking water and environmental microbiology in the UK and Africa. Currently he provides an independent consultancy service in drinking water and environmental water microbiology. He is a member of the Society for Applied Microbiology, the International Water Association and the American Society for Microbiology. He serves on the Standing Committee of Analysts Working Group on Microbiology (of which he was chairman for ten years), the British Standards Institute committee on methods for water microbiology and on three ISO working groups deriving standard methods. David is the developer of the MLGA medium for the enumeration of E. coli and coliform bacteria from drinking water, and co-developer of the Filta-Max system for the recovery of Cryptosporidium oocysts from large volume water samples. The principal areas of David’s expertise are the development, evaluation and validation of analytical methods, laboratory AQC, significance of pathogenic and other bacteria in drinking and environmental waters, and microbiological aspects of drinking water treatment. David has published over 45 peer-reviewed research papers and book chapters on drinking water and environmental microbiology and limnology.
