Geoff Frampton has a PhD in ecotoxicology and has led eight research projects on the environmental impacts of plant protection products, with a focus on field studies with soil organisms and terrestrial non-target arthropods. He has contributed to numerous workshops on the risk assessment of plant protection products and of genetically modified organisms. He currently works at the Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) at the University of Southampton where he is involved in the assessment and critical appraisal of health and environmental evidence.
Due to his involvement both in ecotoxicological and health assessment research areas, Geoff has expertise on the application of evidence-based methods, which have been well developed in health research, to improve ecological and ecotoxicological studies, including risk assessments. For example, he has contributed to recent working groups of the European Food Safety Authority that have developed guidance on the application of systematic review methods, both for risk assessments in food and feed safety and for the preparation of regulatory dossiers on active substances.
