Steve Axford, PhD spent over 36 years with the Environment Agency and its predecessors, spending all of that time as a fisheries scientist, including managing small teams of fisheries scientists. Steve worked extensively on rivers throughout the whole of Yorkshire and also a large number of still waters, before moving on to national level, as Principal Scientist at the National Coarse Fisheries Centre and then to the national Fisheries Science team. Steve managed a number of research projects for the Environment Agency and is PRINCE2 qualified for project management.
Steve has a PhD relating to fisheries management and is the Vice-President of the Institute of Fisheries Management and a Chartered Environmentalist. He has published on water quality, the restoration of Yorkshire rivers, the restoration of salmon rivers in North East England, use of angler catches for monitoring and effects of weirs on movement of all fish species.
